Start Up Cadence

If you are starting up Cadence for the first time, please read Start Up Cadence for the First Time.

* Note to advanced users: We recommend that Cadence be started in a Cadence working direcotry. We also recommend a seperate Cadence working directory for each fabrication process.

1. Change directory to the working directory

cd /afs/ece/usr/YourUserID/hp_cds

* Note for advanced users: when you run hp_cds for the first time, it will create or overwrite following files in the running directory:

.cdsinit  - Cadence startup file
.cdsenv  - contains environment settings
cds.lib - library directories. Contains library names and their corresponding path.
cdsinfo.tag - Cadence directories setting for current direcotry and its sub-directories

if you have editted one of those files, your customized lines will be lost.

2. To start Cadence, type

hp_cds &

3. The CIW (Cadence Interpreter Window) will popup



4. Library Manager window will also popup. If it does not popup, you can go to menu bar in CIW window, click on Tools => Library Manager...

Notice there are three columns: Library, Cell, View.

 

* Note for advanced users: there are several built-in libraries in the Library Manager:

scn3mlc_submLib: default technology library; when you create a new library, attach your new library to scn3mlc_submLib to inherit tech info
NODAS_HP: this library contains mechanical instances like beam, plate, anchor...; used for constructing your MEMS device
NODAS_basic: this library contains force source, position source, angle source; used for simulation
analogLib: this library contains gnd, vcc...; used for designing electronic ciruits

Note: scn3mlc_submLib is solely for technology information, and does not contain any element or design cells

Your next step is opening or creating a schematic cell view or layout cell view.
